This shade-grown estate coffee is grown in the Baba Budangiri* hills in the Western Ghats mountain range in southern India. It is close geographically to Yemen and Africa, both highly respected coffee growing locations. Indian coffee in general has a clean, creamy, nutty taste, often with spicy notes in darker roasts. The specific varietals grown on this estate come from India and Sulawesi in Indonesia, the latter of which give it that spicy finish.
We roast it dark, where it’s full-bodied, creamy, a little walnut and molasses, with spiciness in the back, all somewhat difficult to define but strong and good. There’s a lot going on here in this dark brew, and it’s quite adapted to espresso as well – great flavor and crema.
